Computational Model Library

Our mission is to help computational modelers develop, document, and share their computational models in accordance with community standards and good open science and software engineering practices. Model authors can publish their model source code in the Computational Model Library with narrative documentation as well as metadata that supports open science and emerging norms that facilitate software citation, computational reproducibility / frictionless reuse, and interoperability. Model authors can also request private peer review of their computational models. Models that pass peer review receive a DOI once published.

All users of models published in the library must cite model authors when they use and benefit from their code.

GenoScope is a modular agent-based model designed to simulate how cells respond to environmental stressors or other treatment conditions across species. Genes, treatment conditions, and cell physiology outcomes are represented as interacting agents that influence each other’s behavior over time. Rather than imposing fixed interaction rules, GenoScope initializes with randomized regulatory logic and calibrates rule sets based on empirical data. Calibration is grounded in a common-garden experiment involving 16 mammalian species—including humans, dolphins, bats, and camels—exposed to varying levels of temperature, glucose, and oxygen. This comparative approach enables the identification of mechanisms by which animal cells achieve robustness under extreme environmental conditions.

Exploring Transitions towards Sustainable Construction

This model illustrates actor interaction in the construction sector, according to information gathered in NL. It offers a simple frame to represent diverse interests, interdependencies and effects on the number of built sustainable houses.

This computational model accompanies the article “The Informational Assumptions of Schelling Segregation: An Agent-Based Decomposition of Cue Inference, Cultural Schemas, and Residential Sorting.” It implements an agent-based model in which agents infer latent neighborhood-type classes from noisy non-demographic cues through schema-specific diagnostic mappings, update beliefs, and relocate when satisfaction on a preferred latent class falls below a threshold.

The model serves as a mechanism-isolation device for studying the informational architecture underlying Schelling-style residential sorting. It includes the principal sweep configuration (14,400 runs across a seven-parameter grid), a disagreement-metric sub-sweep with permutation-minimized Jensen-Shannon divergence recorded natively, controls (positive, negative, and frozen-belief), a paired-seed cue-channel perturbation experiment, and selected-cell sensitivity sweeps for cue persistence and home-biased mobility.

The full ODD protocol, parameter manifests, deterministic seed schedules, processed outputs, regenerable figure scripts, the verification test suite, and the satisfaction-mapping audit document are included. Every reported run is deterministic given a (config, seed) pair, and an included audit script verifies bit-for-bit replay on sampled runs.

Livestock drought insurance model

The model analyzes the economic and ecological effects of a provision of livestock drought insurance for dryland pastoralists. More precisely, it yields qualitative insights into how long-term herd and pasture dynamics change through insurance.

Plastics and the pollution caused by their waste have always been a menace to both nature and humans. With the continual increase in plastic waste, the contamination due to plastic has stretched to the oceans. Many plastics are being drained into the oceans and rose to accumulate in the oceans. These plastics have seemed to form large patches of debris that keep floating in the oceans over the years. Identification of the plastic debris in the ocean is challenging and it is essential to clean plastic debris from the ocean. We propose a simple tool built using the agent-based modeling framework NetLogo. The tool uses ocean currents data and plastic data both being loaded using GIS (Geographic Information System) to simulate and visualize the movement of floatable plastic and debris in the oceans. The tool can be used to identify the plastic debris that has been piled up in the oceans. The tool can also be used as a teaching aid in classrooms to bring awareness about the impact of plastic pollution. This tool could additionally assist people to realize how a small plastic chunk discarded can end up as large debris drifting in the oceans. The same tool might help us narrow down the search area while looking out for missing cargo and wreckage parts of ships or flights. Though the tool does not pinpoint the location, it might help in reducing the search area and might be a rudimentary alternative for more computationally expensive models.
