This is a 5-year research project that will investigate the dynamic interactions of floods impacts and social resilience in the Mekong River basin. Based on the project, a small team will be established to do pioneering and impactful science […]
In the group of National and International Nature Conservation in the Department of Agriculture, Ecotrophology and Landscape Development, we offer a PhD position for three years on “Resilient Landscapes”. You will focus on model-based assessment of resilience in (agricultural) landscapes.
Research Associate at Centre for Logistics & Sustainability, Heriot-Watt University; responsible for leading the agent based modelling activity. The Sustainable Cold-Chain project will bring together world leading interdisciplinary researchers to provide a whole systems approach overseeing technology, finances, food security and sociological aspects of how we can deliver demand and climate adaptation, resilience and decarbonisation of the cold-chain in the food industry simultaneously.

The aim is to develop new indicators of the vitality of honeybee colonies which inform about how much they are affected by stressors. The project will use data from a new electronic counter of the flight activity of a colony with data from drone-based surveys of flowering plants in the surrounding landscape to inform the agent-based honeybee model BEEHAVE (http://beehave-model.net/). BEEHAVE will then be used to develop stress tests for identifying new indicators.
Adaptive resilient economy: responding to shocks under boundedly-rational economic expectations
We focus on modeling economy as an adaptive complex system. Heterogeneous economic agents with bounded rationality and imperfect information make decisions and interact with each other giving rise to macroeconomic phenomena. Economies globally become more interconnected and prone to shocks (incl. climate-induced natural hazards). How do networked economies recover and evolve in face of adversities?
