My main research interest is the application of computer simulation to study human-centric complex adaptive systems. I am a strong advocate of Object Oriented Agent-Based Social Simulation. This is a novel and highly interdisciplinary research field, involving disciplines like Social Science, Economics, Psychology, Operations Research, Geography, and Computer Science. My current research focusses on Urban Sustainability and I am a co-investigator in several related projects and a member of the university’s “Sustainable and Resilient Cities” Research Priority Area management team.
Antônio Sousa is a biologist with a background in medical entomology, disease ecology, statistical and computational modeling. Antônio has a Ph.D. (2018) and Master (2014) in Science from the School of Public Health at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Currently, he is a postdoctoral fellow in the same institution.
My research interest lies in the study of the transmission and dispersal dynamics of vector-borne diseases. I have been working on the development of statistical, mathematical and computational models to understand bioecology of mosquitoes and to predict the transmission dynamics of pathogens transmitted by these insects.
I graduated Bachelor and Master studies at the University of Warsaw, obtaining the diploma in biology at College of Inter-Faculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MISMaP). After graduation I worked as a freelancer in data science and statistics, then worked for 2 years as a data scientist in an IT startup and now I am working as a statistician in The Polish National Information Processing Institute (OPI PIB) in a group analysing condition of science and higher education in Poland. My research broadly integrates and focuses on developing principled computationally and statistically efficient models and algorithms for various machine learning problems in Smart Agriculture, Ecological Informatics, Computer Vision, Applied AI, Cybersecurity and Privacy, and Smart Cities. I attained a Bachelor in Information Technology at the Faculty of Science & Computing, Ndejje University, Kampala, Uganda; a Master in Information Technology Engineering (Computer and Communication Networks); and PhD in Computer Science Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Brunei. He has received additional training from, among others, the National Institutes of Health, US Department of Health and Human Services, and the Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA. Hundreds of scholarly publications, including those in prestigious peer-reviewed journal articles, numerous IEEE International, non-IEEE Conference proceedings, book chapters, and books have been published. Reviewer/editorial support of over twelve (Scopus, Compendex (Elsevier Engineering Index), and WoS International Journals, including Expert Systems With Applications, Scientific Reports and Computers and Electronics in Agriculture. I served in several capacities, including being departmental support for Mathematics for Data Science, Advanced Topics in Computing, and Advanced Algorithms. Prior to this, I served as a community data officer at Pace-Uganda, a research associate at TechnoServe, a research assistant at PSI-Uganda, a research lead at the Socio-economic Data Centre (SEDC-Uganda) and ag. managing director at Asmaah Charity Organisation.

I am a computational archaeologist interested in how individuals and groups respond to both large scale processes such as climate change and local processes such as violence and wealth inequality. I am currently a PhD Candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Washington State University.
My dissertation research focuses on experimenting with paleoecological data (e.g., pollen) to assess whether or not different approaches are feasible for paleoclimatic field reconstructions. In addition, I will also use pollen data to generate vegetation (biome) reconstructions. By using tree-ring and pollen data, we can gain a better understanding of the paleoclimate and the spatial distribution of vegetation communities and how those changed over time. These data can be used to better understand changes in demography and how people responded to environmental change.
In Summer 2019, I attended the Santa Fe Institute’s Complex Systems Summer School, where I got to work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary international scientific community. For one of my projects, I got to merry my love of Sci-fi with complexity and agent-based modeling. Sci-fi agent-based modeling is an anthology and we wanted to build a community of collaborators for exploring sci-fi worlds. We also have an Instagram page (@Scifiabm).
I’m a trained philosopher, but, besides conceptual problems, I care for conclusions based on systematic observations and I also care for the applicability of those conclusions. One might say that I wish I were a behavioral economist, or maybe an ethologist/behavioral ecologist.
I am an anthropological archaeologist with broad interests in hunter-gatherers, lithic technology, human evolution, and complex systems theory. I am particularly interested in understanding processes of long term social, evolutionary, and adaptational change among hunter-gatherers, specifically by using approaches that combine archaeological data, ethnographic data, and computational modeling.
Inyoung Hwang is an Associate Research Fellow at Korea Institute of Science & Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), South Korea. He was a visiting scholar in the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University. He received a B.Sc. in Vocational Education and Workforce Development, an M.P.P. in Public Policy, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Seoul National University.

Her current research focuses on deep reinforcement learning techniques and multi-agent applications to optimize control of system architectures such as HPC grids, high-speed networks and Cloud infrastructures.. Her work involves optimization of QoS, performance using parallelization algorithms and software engineering principles to solve complex data intensive problems such as large-scale complex decision-making. Over the years, she has been working with biologists, economists, social scientists, building tools and performing optimization of architectures for multiple problems in their domain.
