Postdoctoral researcher in past socio-environmental systems

The AI for Biocultural Diversity Lab in the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher in computational modeling of past socio-environmental systems. The Lab seeks to generate spatially-explicit reconstructions of global population and land use throughout the Holocene to uncover long-term trends in coupled climate and human dynamics, assess their roles in global biogeophysical and biogeochemical cycles, and measure their persistent impacts on contemporary biodiversity.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program integrating paleodemographic, paleoclimatological, and paleoenvironmental models and data from the past 12,000 years. Primary responsibilities for this position include ongoing development of a suite of general-purpose R packages for past socio-environmental systems, as well as proof-of-concept applications to select regional case studies (open to the candidate’s interests and experience, current case studies include Southwest North America, the Mediterranean, and East Asia). The successful candidate will also gain experience in proposal writing, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and museum-based public outreach.
