Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) is looking for qualified and motivated researchers to fill 3 positions in the field of Climate Change Adaptation Modelling. The candidates will join the team working in the area of “Climate Change Adaptation in Coastal Areas” (ADAPT@VE), a research program aimed at understanding and interpreting the current societal changes in response to the challenges for adaptating to climate change. The goal is to develop answers to key questions concerning the multi-scale relationships between global drivers and local dynamics of adaptation.
The ADPT@VE research programme will start its activities in early January 2022.
The following research areas and competences are foreseen in the initial phase:
Climate Change economics;
Socio-ecosystem modelling;
Agent Based Models;
Integrated Assessment Models;
System Dynamic models;
Spatial Data Analysis and Modelling.
Candidates are not expected to cover the whole set of competences and topics, but experiences in more than one of them will be considered as a plus.

The selected applicants will be based in Venice (Italy) and will primarily focus on research projects. The candidates will also be asked to contribute to internal activities and to participate in conferences, workshops, and stakeholders’ events. As part of his/her duties, the candidate will have to finalize the research efforts in scientific articles or similar products (i.e. book chapters, books) as well as in nontechnical products for dissemination like policy briefs.
The job assignment is expected to begin as soon as possible. Gross salary is competitive and will be based on qualification and experience.
Requirements
The research activities of the ADAPT@VE program are primarily empirical and relate to the spheres of environmental economics and modelling. A background with solid quantitative skills, as demonstrated by the achievement of at least a M.Sc. in a subject area related to the job description is compulsory and may range from economics, to environmental sciences, engineering, or physics. A Ph.D. degree is not compulsory, but it is highly valued.
The ideal candidate:
is familiar with the advanced approaches to the modelling of social and ecological systems;
has a solid quantitative background in statistics and mathematics, acquired during advanced postgraduate courses;
has sufficient command of standard statistical packages, like R, and/or geographical ones, such as QGIS;
can operate in an international context with English as a working language, but is also fluent in Italian;
is highly committed to develop a research project;
can work independently.
