PhD and Post-doc in agronomic forecasting (University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign)


PhD position:

The agronomic forecasting lab (aka The Dokoohaki Lab - http://www.dokoolab.com) at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, seeks a PhD student with degrees in agronomy, statistics, computer science or related fields. The successful candidate will work on a cutting-edge program for developing a new generation of crop yield monitoring systems. Projects focus on the use of Bayesian statistical methods for fusing satellite images and soil/crop sensors into process-based crop models. Knowledge in Bayesian statistics, coding in R/Python and crop science are preferred. Opportunities are available for collaboration with scientists on existing digital agriculture research projects between the crop science and animal science department. These positions will become part of a dynamic environment within the crop science department focused on interdisciplinary research programs that span the interface between crop science, computer science and animal science.

Postdoctoral position:

The agronomic forecasting lab (aka The Dokoohaki Lab - http://www.dokoolab.com) at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, seeks a postdoctoral fellow with degrees in agronomy, statistics or related fields. The successful candidate will work on developing a decision support tool for adaptive management of cereal rye in no-till organic and conventional soybeans. Project focuses on developing an online decision support tool for managing cereal rye phenology and growth and working with a farmer advisory council and the IDEA Farm Network. Knowledge in statistics, coding in R/Python and crop science are preferred. This project is funded through NCR SARE and funding is available for one year. Opportunities are available for collaboration with scientists on existing digital agriculture research projects as well.
