Tenure-track faculty position in GIS with computational social science approach


Texas A&M University, the Department of Geography invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Geographic Information Science (GIS) at the Assistant Professor level. We seek applicants who address questions through a computational social science approach. The successful applicant must be able to teach advanced courses in GIS/CyberGIS (e.g. WebGIS, Spatial Databases, and/or GIS Programming). Essential characteristics include publications commensurate with experience; demonstrated capability to secure external funding; and the ability to strengthen the graduate program in Geography through course offerings and mentoring students. Candidates should have the potential for creating synergies with existing Department strengths, must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment, and have a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching.

The Department of Geography has 24 faculty members with strengths in biogeography, climatology, geomorphology, human geography, human-environment relationships, and GIST (Geographic Information Science and Technology) (http://geography.tamu.edu). We are based in the College of Geosciences (http://geosciences.tamu.edu). At Texas A&M University, exciting opportunities for synergies exist with the Center for Geospatial Sciences, Applications and Technology (GEOSAT), the Texas Research Data Center, the Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, and the Institute for Sustainable Communities. The Department of Geography is involved in a new campus-wide initiative focused on big data and data analytics. Texas A&M is also home to the Bush School of Government and Public Service.
