The Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science in cooperation with the Datalab at George Mason University (GMU) and the Department of Computer Science at Tulane University have a total of three postdoctoral fellow positions available. These positions will be part of the “Urban Simulation” project team conducting research as part of the DARPA’s “Ground Truth” program, a network of DARPA-funded teams across the USA. The team is directed by Andreas Zuefle, Dieter Pfoser, and Andrew Crooks at GMU and by Carola Wenk at Tulane.
The project team will design and implement an agent-based simulation environment for urban areas. These simulations will be large-scale and will provide observed movement traces, agent communication threads and social networks. The project goal is to provide tools in support of a verifiable and quantitative study of human movement and social behavior. The three postdoctoral fellows will collaborate in the design and implementation of the simulation framework based on the existing Multiagent Simulation Toolkit (MASON) platform (written in Java).
Position 1 - a two 2-year postdoctoral researcher positions at GMU in Fairfax, Virginia. The main role for one of these positions is to lead the design and implementation of the agent-based simulation environment. For more information and to apply, please visit https://jobs.gmu.edu/postings/42109.
Application deadline: January 19, 2018.
Position 2 - a two 2-year postdoctoral researcher positions at GMU in Fairfax, Virginia. This position focuses on model development and computational social science aspects of the simulation framework. For more information and to apply, please visit https://jobs.gmu.edu/postings/42107.
Application deadline: January 19, 2018.
Please email either Andreas Zuefle , Dieter Pfoser , or Andrew Crooks for questions about Positions 1&2.
Position 3 - A 2.5-year postdoctoral researcher position at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. The responsibilities include the development and implementation of efficient and scalable agent logic, large-scale simulations on Tulane’s HPC cluster, and the development of evaluation metrics to measure the success of other teams explaining and predicting complex behavior from the simulated data. For more information and to apply, please visit the following link: https://apply.interfolio.com/46420.
Application deadline: January 15, 2018.
Please email Carola Wenk, cwenk@tulane.edu for questions about Position 3.
Applications received after the respective deadlines will be considered until the positions are filled. The start dates for these positions are flexible, but are ideally in early Spring 2018.
