Centre for Research in Social Simulation
University of Surrey,
Guildford, UK
2 Research Fellows for the Whole System Energy Modelling Consortium:
(a) Agent-based modelling of household energy demand
(b) Social practices of energy consumption
(Ref: 9385)
Posts available from July 2013
Salary: up to £37,382 per annum
Two positions are available in the Centre for Research in Social Simulation to work with Professor Nigel Gilbert in the new four-year, £5.7 million WholeSEM (Whole Systems Energy Modelling) project, funded within the RCUK Energy Programme. WholeSEM is a consortium led by UCL and with Cambridge and Imperial as the other partners that will develop, integrate and apply state of the art energy models in collaboration with stakeholders in academia, government and industry in the UK and internationally.
The work at Surrey will be located within the Centre for Research in Social Simulation (CRESS) and will focus on energy related behaviour, practices and demand in households, and on processes of innovation in the energy sector. For the former, a social practice theory approach will be used.
The two posts are full-time for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years. One of the posts will be appropriate for a post-doctoral researcher with a significant track record of research and publication in social simulation, especially using agent-based models. For the second post, we are looking for a post-doctoral social scientist with experience of ethnographic research, ideally about household energy use.
For both posts, an excellent publication record, the ability to innovate and the ability to work in a highly multidisciplinary environment are requirements.
For informal discussions about the post, contact Professor Nigel Gilbert at n.gilbert@surrey.ac.uk .
